The official website for Ghost in the Shell: Arise has just released a new teaser for the film. The plot, which still lacks further details, will be a prequel to the Ghost in the Shell film, featuring a young Motoko Kusanagi. The new anime, based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, will be divided into four 50-minute parts. The first, titled Ghost Pain, will be released in Japanese theaters on June 22nd of this year. The Blu-ray and DVD release will be on July 26th. Check out the video:
Ghost in the Shell: Arise is directed by Kazuchika Kise, with a screenplay by Tow Ubukata and a soundtrack composed by Cornelius. The Japanese voice cast includes Maaya Sakamoto (Mokoto Kusanagi), Kenichiro Matsuda (Batou), Yoji Ueda (Paz), Tarusuke Shingaki (Togusa), Tomoyuki Dan (Ishikawa), Takuro Nakakuni (Saito), Kazuya Nakai (Borma), and Ikkyu Juku (Daisuke Aramaki).
On March 13th, the manga adaptation based on the new film, titled Ghost in the Shell Arise: Sleepless Eye (Nemuranai Me no Otoko), began serialization in Young Magazine. The manga features artwork by Takumi Ōyama and a story by Junichi Fujisaku.
