Toei Animation has released a new trailer for the 3D animated film about Captain Harlock (Space Pirate Captain Harlock), a project that has been developed by the studio since 2010. The film is a remake based on the manga by Leiji Matsumoto (Star Patrol, Gun Frontier) , published between 1977 and 1979 by Akita Shoten. It was later adapted into an anime. The film's script was written by Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC) and the direction is in the hands of the well-known Shinji Aramaki, who already has experience in animations made with CG (Appleseed Ex Machina). The production is budgeted at more than 30 million dollars (R$61 million), a value similar to that of Hollywood productions.
Synopsis: The story takes place during the year 2997 AD, when planet Earth has become a unified nation, whose civilization has become extremely developed. One day, an unknown alien race attacks Earth. Informed of the crisis, Captain Harlock takes action aboard his warship Arcadia along with his crew, to confront Queen Rafflesia of Mazon, who is behind this invasion.
Space Pirate Captain Harlock 3D will be released in theaters in Japan during the fall.
