New Space Pirate Captain Harlock 3D trailer

Toei Animation has released a new trailer for the 3D animated film Space Pirate Captain Harlock, a project the studio has been developing since 2010. The film is a remake based on the manga by Leiji Matsumoto (Star Patrol, Gun Frontier), published between 1977 and 1979 by Akita Shoten. It was later adapted into an anime. The film's script was written by Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC), and the director is Shinji Aramaki, who already has experience in CG animation (Appleseed Ex Machina). The production is budgeted at over $30 million (R$61 million), a figure similar to that of Hollywood productions.
Synopsis: The story takes place during the year 2997 AD, when planet Earth has become a unified nation, whose civilization has become extremely developed. One day, an unknown alien race attacks Earth. Informed of the crisis, Captain Harlock and his crew spring into action aboard his warship Arcadia to confront Queen Rafflesia of Mazon, who is behind the invasion.

Space Pirate Captain Harlock 3D will be released in Japanese theaters this fall.
