So, as for episode 4 onwards, it's because THAT thing happened [and] now we need to wait a bit.

Well before its premiere, NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a promised to be one of the great animes of the season, especially with animation by A-1 Pictures (Lycoris Recoil), but the introduction of CG left fans worried.

Directed by Ryouji Masuyama (Blend S, Hello WeGo!) at A-1 Pictures (Lycoris Recoil), CG by Yuusuke Noma and cinematography by Toshiaki Aoshima.

Synopsis

NieR:Automata tells the story of androids 2B, 9S, and A2 and their battle to reclaim a machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines.
Humanity was driven from Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final effort to reclaim the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to destroy the invaders. Now, a war between machines and androids continues… a war that may soon reveal a long-forgotten truth about the world.

Finally, the NieR:Automata game was released for the PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2017. Additionally, Square Enix released the game on PC in March 2017 and on Xbox One in June 2018.
