Nintendo fans to celebrate, as the long-awaited GameCube controller for the Switch 2 is about to arrive! However, a little patience (and an active Nintendo Switch Online ) will be needed to secure yours. After all, the iconic controller remains one of the most beloved in gaming history, and its return promises to please, especially, Super Smash Bros. and those nostalgic for GameCube classics.
The controller, which will cost $64.99 (approximately R$ 368.49 at the current exchange rate), will be completely wireless and compatible with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack , allowing for a more faithful experience when revisiting legendary titles. However, getting one of these controllers is not as simple as going to a store or placing a regular pre-order.
How do I get GameCube control on the Switch 2?

First, those lucky enough to receive an official invitation from Nintendo to purchase the Switch 2 directly from the company will have priority in acquiring the controller. These invitations will be sent between May 8th and 12th . Subsequently, on May 13th , 2025, all Nintendo Switch Online members will be able to purchase the controller, with a limit of one unit . However, subscribers to the free trial of the service will not be eligible to purchase.
Therefore, it's good to be aware: the controller is expected to sell out quickly, similar to what happens with Nintendo 64 controllers, which frequently disappear from stock in a few minutes. Even though the GameCube controller isn't mandatory for playing classic titles on the Switch 2, it offers a special charm for the new generation.
Furthermore, the official launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 will take place on June 5 , 2025, accompanied by three GameCube games: F-Zero GX , The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker , and Soulcalibur 2. In addition, other classics such as Luigi's Mansion , Super Mario Sunshine , and Pokémon Colosseum have already been confirmed, but without a set date.
