Nintendo has issued a recommendation for buyers of the Nintendo Switch 2, which hits stores this Thursday, June 5th. Nintendo emphasizes that users should not remove the protective film applied to the Switch 2's factory-installed screen, as the material ensures safety in the event of an impact. The guidance is included in the European safety manual and aims to prevent accidents involving shrapnel if the display breaks.

Fixed layer protects the user from glass fragments

The Nintendo Switch 2 screen protector is an anti-scatter layer. The material is designed to keep glass fragments adhered to the screen if the panel is damaged by impact. This prevents shards from scattering and potentially causing injury.

Unlike traditional protectors sold on the market, this film is factory-attached and serves a safety function. According to Nintendo, removing it could compromise the integrity of the console and user protection.

The warning isn't new. Previous models like the Switch OLED already featured a similar layer. However, the company has reiterated the warning in response to consumer concerns about the presence of the film on the new device.

Nintendo provides guidance on ideal temperature and care for Joy-Con

In addition to the screen protector, Nintendo recommends using the Nintendo Switch 2 in temperatures between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius. Another important precaution is to charge the battery at least once every six months, even when the console is stored.

The Joy-Con also require attention. The company recommends using the straps to prevent accidental drops during gameplay. There's also a warning not to stick stickers on the side buttons. This can interfere with the magnets that attach the controllers to the body of the device.
