Bethesda launched on Tuesday (22) the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The studio completely redided the 2006 RPG at Unreal Engine 5, preserving the original structure and adding visual and mechanical improvements aimed at the new generation of players.
The new version was developed by Bethesda's Virtuos Studio. According to Todd Howard, the creative director of the franchise, the choice of the term Remastered was because "the game still preserves many of the bones of the original title." Despite the visual reformulation, the narrative and the structure of the adventure remain faithful to the classic.
Modern graphics, but preserved soul
Restreization includes all additional game content released almost two decades ago, such as the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions. The developers refers from scratch the technical elements, focusing on character models, lighting, animations and visual effects.
The game also won a new, cleaner and intuitive interface, and updated sound effects. The combat system now offers tactile answers to controls, new particle elements and the possibility of running, something absent in the original version. In addition, Howard pointed out that the goal was "to make Oblivion more accessible and exciting for today's players without erasing their identity."
Skyrim's influence appears in the new progression system
The team reformulated the level system and included skyrim mechanics, such as skill -based progression. This gives more freedom for players to shape their characters in the favorite game.
The game also has new voice recordings, adapted to the different playable races. The actors rewrote the lines to give more life to the characters, but the developers maintained the classic and peculiar dialogue system of the original version. For many fans, this decision reinforces the nostalgic character of remastering.
Immediate launch and presence at Game Pass
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available for download on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and PC platforms. In the Microsoft ecosystem, the title comes directly to the Game Pass catalog, expanding access to the new version.
Players already find Oblivion Remastered for sale for $ 265.90 in the default edition and for $ 319.90 in the Deluxe version. The latter offers exclusive cosmetic items, remastered soundtrack and a digital book with development arts. Both versions are available for download from Steam and Xbox Store.
Thus, with a solid base and substantial improvements, Oblivion Remastered tries to balance nostalgia with innovation, aiming at both the veterans of the series and in new players. However, Bethesda has not yet revealed whether to apply the same treatment to other old franchise titles such as Morrowind.
