Shueisha recently shared new information about the live-action One Piece , including exclusive comments from Matt Owens. While Oda had several demands, the executive said there were two things the creator wanted to emphasize. The first requirement was to maintain the main characters' original stories.
“They’re so important to who they are as people, what their dreams and motivations are, and how Luffy delves deeper into that as he gets to know them and helps them rediscover those dreams.”
The second requirement would be to maintain the unique abilities of each member of the Straw Hat crew.
“Specific Devil Fruit powers and other skill sets were all carefully crafted by Oda, and a lot of imagination went into what different people can do and what the rules are for that.”
Finally, the main cast of the series includes Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu Arata as Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Emily Rudd as Nami. The series premieres on August 31st on Netflix.
Synopsis:
The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a rubber body after eating the magical Gomu Gomu no Mi (the Rubber Fruit). Inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Red-Haired Shanks, he became a pirate and set sail across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece , and proclaim himself the Pirate King.
