Check it out:
Oda (2019): One Piece is not a *bond of Straw Hats*. I hate that kind of thing. When I was a kid, I was not happy with the ending of The Wizard of Oz, that the adventure is itself a treasure. That story was unacceptable. Luffy has a great journey, so give him a proper treasure.???? pic.twitter.com/3a3fZy3Ue3

@Sandman_AP profile brought to Twitter the response that Eiichiro Oda gave in an old interview, talking about how he hates the idea of One Piece being just the friendship of the protagonists.
“One Piece isn't the Straw Hat Pirates' bond. I hate that kind of thing. When I was a kid, I wasn't at all happy with The Wizard of Oz, where adventure is the true treasure. That story was unacceptable. Luffy has a great journey ahead of him, so give him a treasure that suits him.”
Currently, the theory that One Piece is the Straw Hat Pirates' bond of friendship remains a strong belief among fans. However, according to the series creator, this theory won't come to fruition, and what awaits Luffy at the end of his journey is a true treasure.
The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a rubber body after eating the magical Gomu Gomu no Mi (the Rubber Fruit). Inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Red-Haired Shanks, he becomes a pirate and sets sail across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece, and proclaim himself the Pirate King.
