Check it out:
Oda (2019): One Piece is not a *bond of Straw Hats*. I hate that kind of thing. When I was a kid, I was not happy with the ending of The Wizard of Oz, that the adventure is itself a treasure. That story was unacceptable. Luffy has a great journey, so give him a proper treasure.???? pic.twitter.com/3a3fZy3Ue3

The profile @Sandman_AP brought to Twitter the response that Eiichiro Oda gave in an old interview, talking about how he hates the idea of One Piece being just the protagonists' friendship.
“One Piece is not the Straw Hats' bond. I hate this kind of thing. When I was a kid, I wasn't at all happy with The Wizard of Oz, where adventure is the real treasure. This story was unacceptable. Luffy has a great journey, so give him a suitable treasure.”
Currently, the theory that One Piece is the Straw Hats' friendship bond is still a strong belief among fans. However, according to the series creator's words, this theory will not happen and what awaits Luffy at the end of the journey is a real treasure.
The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a body made of rubber after eating the magical fruit Gomu Gomu no Mi (the Rubber Fruit). He was inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Shanks the Red, to become a pirate and sail on a journey across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece, and proclaim himself the Pirate King.
