Among the questions he received, the producer was asked if he'd like to expand the series through spin-offs. He eventually said he'd love to explore that idea, creating spin-off series featuring characters other than the Straw Hat Pirates. However, he confesses that he'd love to start with a Mihawk series, telling the story of his youth.
"I'd love for that to be the case! There are so many stories we still need to delve into. I'd love to do a series about young Mihawk. See his rise through the world, interacting with other prominent figures from the past."
Synopsis:
The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a rubber body after eating the magical Gomu Gomu no Mi (the Rubber Fruit). Inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy decided to become a pirate and set sail across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece, and proclaim himself the Pirate King.
Eiichiro Oda began serializing One Piece in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997. Since then, his manga has grown at an astonishing rate to become the sensation it is today. As its story has grown, the series has reached over 1,000 chapters and 100 manga volumes published in 25 years. Despite being such a long series, One Piece has become the best-selling manga in history.
