Although canon, Mr. 7 never appeared in the One Piece anime or manga because Zoro killed him before the story began. He's only mentioned in a brief conversation between the characters and in the SBS for volume 36. However, being a huge fan of the manga, Owens told Oda he was interested in introducing Mr. 7 in the live-action version. The manga artist was impressed with the producer's idea and dedication.

One of the many ideas I proposed to Oda at our first meeting was the introduction of Zoro. In an old SBS, Oda mentioned that Zoro was previously recruited by Mr. 7 of Baroque Works and killed in combat. That was exactly what I was looking for: something canonical that we hadn't seen in the manga before. Oda turned to one of his editors and asked, "Did I say that?"

The next day, they presented me with this drawing. It was the only time Mr. 7 was completely drawn by Oda. He said he was impressed by my knowledge of his world and liked the idea. Holding it was like carrying the Holy Grail. It was the first of many great conversations and interactions with Eiichiro Oda himself. Someone I'm proud to call a collaborator and friend.

Synopsis:

The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a rubber body after eating the magical Gomu Gomu no Mi (the Rubber Fruit). Inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy decided to become a pirate and set sail across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece, and proclaim himself the Pirate King.
