Netflix 's official profile has released videos of Iñaki Godoy's trip around Japan. We saw the actor visiting Shueisha headquarters and meeting Luffy's original voice, Mayumi Tanaka . However, Netflix went a step further at the next point of the trip, taking Godoy to meet Oda.
The One Piece creator is known for not appearing in person for interviews, but it seems he made an exception to meet Luffy's actor. While Godoy says he's honored by this opportunity, Oda emphasizes that he was the perfect choice for the protagonist role from the start.
Finally, the main cast of the series includes Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu Arata as Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Emily Rudd as Nami. The series premieres on August 31st on Netflix.
Synopsis:
The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a rubber body after eating the magical Gomu Gomu no Mi (the Rubber Fruit). Inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy decided to become a pirate and set sail across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece, and proclaim himself the Pirate King.
