Saitama is a hero who only became a hero for fun. After three years of "special training," he became so strong that he is practically invincible. In fact, he is very strong—even his most powerful opponents are eliminated with a single punch. Now, the great seer Madame Shibabawa's prediction that the Earth is doomed appears to be coming true as the frequency of monster incidents increases. Simultaneously with Genos, his faithful disciple, Saitama begins his official hero duties as a member of the Hero Association, while Garou, a man utterly fascinated by monsters, makes his appearance.

Developed by the author under the pseudonym One, the series was published in 2009 and quickly became a viral phenomenon, reaching over 7.9 million views by June 2012. The title of the work, "Wanpanman," is a parody of the character Anpanman; the word "wanpan" is a contraction of "wanpanchi" (one punch). One Punch Man tells the story of Saitama, an extremely powerful superhero who, bored by the lack of challenges in his fight against evil, seeks to find a worthy opponent.
