Shigemi Ikeda , renowned art director and founder of the set design studio Atelier Musa , passed away on October 13 at the age of 69, as confirmed by his family.
Born in Shinjuku , Tokyo, Ikeda graduated from the animation program at the Tokyo Designer Academy (now Tokyo Net Wave). He began his career in the art department at Ad Cosmo, then worked at Group TAC and Studio Uni before founding Atelier Musa. It was there that he made an indelible mark as an art director.
Ikeda's career is impressive, with contributions to iconic series in the Gundam such as Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn , Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack , Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket , Turn A Gundam , and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED .
In addition to One Punch Man , he also directed Boku no Hero Academia , Yakusoku no Neverland , Overlord , Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU) , and Planetes , among others.
Finally, in 2009, Shigemi Ikeda won a Primetime Emmy Juried Award for animation with his work on Afro Samurai: Resurrection .
