One Punch Man promises to surprise fans in the anime with the arrival of an unexpected character: Overgrown Rover . Although at first glance he seems like just another dangerous monster, Rover stands out for something unusual—he transforms into a loyal and, surprisingly, cute mascot.
An enemy turned into a companion mascot
Rover first appears in chapter 90 of the manga , when Garou attempts to rescue Tareo from the Monster Association base. However, the mission is interrupted by the arrival of the enormous dog monster, which quickly demonstrates its power with a destructive beam. Although Garou attempts to confront it, Rover easily defeats it, classifying it as a dragon-level threat.
Later, it's Saitama who confronts Rover—and defeats him effortlessly. Thus begins the character's transformation. Wounded and frightened, Rover recognizes Saitama's strength and begins to follow him faithfully, even after the fall of the Monster Association.
Rover earns his place among the heroes
Despite his monstrous past, Rover wins the audience's hearts and, equally, the characters' respect. Saitama adopts him as a pet, and he lives with the hero at the Association's headquarters. Furthermore, amusing scenes show Rover interacting with Fubuki and the Blizzard group, even "joining" the team in exchange for prime meat.
Eventually, Rover proves his true loyalty by facing divine beasts in defense of his new companions. Thus, what began as a threat becomes one of One Punch Man's most beloved mascots.
Finally, the first season of the One Punch Man anime premiered in 2015, directed by Shingo Natsume directed by Madhouse (Hunter x Hunter). The second season premiered in January 2019, containing 12 episodes.
