Opening of Oshi no Ko reaches historic record by ranking #1 on Billboard Global

The opening song of Oshi no Ko , “Idol” , composed by the musical duo YOASOBI , ranked 1st on the Billboard Global . This was a historic record, as “Idol” was the first Japanese song to rank first in this American ranking.

Billboard Global rankings are based on the number of downloads made on music streaming services outside the United States. According to Billboard data, “Idol” received 45.7 million hits in streams and, between May 26th and June 1st, it had 24,000 sales in downloads. Additionally, YOASOBI's official profile made a thank you post to celebrate the reach their music has had.

 “It is the first song originally performed in Japanese to reach the top of this chart! Thank you very much."

Synopsis:

The story follows a doctor named Gorou , a fan of a 16-year-old “Idol” named Ai Hoshino . But one fine day Hoshino appears at her office, however, saying that she is pregnant with twins, but her manager tells her to abort the babies. But Idol doesn't want to have an abortion, she wants to have both children. Then Gorou promises her a safe birth. Little does he know that an encounter with a mysterious figure would result in his untimely death, or so he thought. However, upon opening his eyes in his beloved idol's lap, Gorou discovers that he has been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino , the newborn son of Ai! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon discovers that the world of showbiz is full of controversy, where talent doesn't always bring success.

Anyway , Akasaka and Yokoyari started the manga in Shueisha 's Young Jump in 2020. Volume 12 of the manga was published on March 17, 2023 in Japan.
