Episode 6 of Oshi no Ko explored, through the character Akane Kurokawa , the hate that artists can suffer on social media. However, many people may not even know that Akane's tragic story was inspired by the case of Hana Kimura , a Japanese fighter who committed suicide after suffering endless online attacks.
Oshi no Ko – Meet the person who inspired Akane’s tragic story
Hana Kimura excelled in her wrestling career and partnered with major Japanese brands, but her career ended when she participated in the Netflix reality show Terrace House . In the meantime, the fighter fought with another participant in the reality show and suffered criticism from viewers for also being of Indonesian descent. All the criticism questioned her for not being pure Japanese and for the fight on the program.
Soon after receiving so many attacks, Kimura could not handle the pressure and committed suicide in 2020, dying at the age of 22. So you can see that this case has certain similarities with Akane's story in Oshi no Ko. The character was also harshly attacked on social media just for a reality show incident and this greatly affected her psychology and health.
Synopsis:
The story follows a doctor named Gorou , a fan of a 16-year-old “Idol” named Ai Hoshino . But one fine day Hoshino appears at her office, however, saying that she is pregnant with twins, but her manager tells her to abort the babies. But Idol doesn't want to have an abortion, she wants to have both children. Then Gorou promises her a safe birth. Little does he know that an encounter with a mysterious figure would result in his untimely death, or so he thought. However, upon opening his eyes in his beloved idol's lap, Gorou discovers that he has been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino , the newborn son of Ai! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon discovers that the world of showbiz is full of controversy, where talent doesn't always bring success.
Therefore , Akasaka and Yokoyari started the manga in Shueisha 's Salto Jovem in 2020. Furthermore, volume 12 of the manga was published on March 17, 2023 in Japan.
