The posted image shows a warning: Unfortunate news. We have received complaints about the presence of the manga "Oshi no Ko" at this center. The story appears to be intended for boys and girls of school age and older. We regret that we are unable to provide these books at this time .
The "Oshi no Ko" franchise has gained attention due to the mixed reactions it has generated within the community. The manga series, written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari , tells the story of the reborn children of a teen idol and presents complex and mature themes. While it was well-received by adults, its inclusion in a library aimed at young children sparked debate.
Some argue that the content of "Oshi no Ko" is not suitable for school-aged children, while others defend the series' inclusion and suggest that the decision is inconsistent, since manga such as "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Neon Genesis Evangelion" remain available in the same library.
One user expressed his opinion on this:
- Well, obviously you can't put a manga about a pregnant teenager in that place." Another commented: "I don't think it's because of the content, I'm sure if you asked them to add Chainsaw Man to that library, they would approve.
- I don't know if it's interesting for elementary school children. Could they understand the story of Oshi no Ko? Middle schoolers or older might enjoy it more.
It's worth remembering that the manga's illustrator commented that the work is not for children. Check it out .
Synopsis:
The story follows a doctor named Gorou , a fan of a 16-year-old idol named Ai Hoshino . One day, Hoshino shows up at his office, claiming she's pregnant with twins, but her manager tells her to abort the babies. The idol doesn't want to abort; she wants both children. So Gorou promises her a safe delivery. Little does he know that an encounter with a mysterious figure will result in his untimely death, or so he thought. However, upon opening his eyes in his beloved idol's arms, Gorou discovers he's been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino , Ai's newborn son! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon discovers that the world of showbiz is full of controversies, where talent doesn't always bring success.
Akasaka and Yokoyari started the manga in Shueisha 's in 2020. Volume 11 of the manga was released on March 17, 2023 in Japan.
