Warner Bros. surprised everyone with the first trailer for the live-action Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie, which will be based on the story of the game released for Nintendo 3DS.
Instead of the familiar Ash as the anime , the story centers on Rob Letterman ( Goosebumps ), the father of Justice Smith who is kidnapped and will have to join forces with Pikachu to solve the whole plot. The cast also includes Kathryn Newton ( Big Little Lies ), who plays a journalist who helps them on their mission. The premiere is scheduled for May 9, 2019 .
The film is based on the Detective Pikachu game, released for the Nintendo 3DS. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, Kathryn Newton as Lucy, Justice Smith as Tim Goodman, and Ken Watanabe as Detective Yoshida.
