Released on June 19th, Rematch is already showing the potential to establish itself among the top football titles on the market. Developed by Sloclap, the game reached the milestone of 1 million copies sold in just a few days and has amassed over 2.5 million players across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. Its unique approach, which departs from the conventional rules of football, has attracted an audience curious about innovation in the sports genre.

Unlike traditional simulators, Rematch focuses on fast-paced matches free from rules like fouls or offsides. The emphasis is on continuous action, sharp reflexes, and collective strategies within stylized third-person arenas. Sloclap, formerly known as Sifu, surprises by venturing into the sports genre for the first time with a concept that blends arcade and competitiveness.

Rematch achieved immediate success in the first few days

The numbers recorded in the first weekend are impressive. More than 11 million matches were played in just three days, indicating high engagement from the community. Furthermore, the game totaled more than 58 million goals scored and surpassed 69 million saves made by goalkeepers. These figures reinforce the dynamic gameplay and the players' interest in the intense experience offered by the title.

Another highlight is Rematch's striking visual style. With vibrant art design and stylized characters, the game draws attention not only for its gameplay but also for its aesthetics. The title is also available on the Game Pass service, which expands its reach and facilitates access for new players curious about the new game.

Criticisms and ongoing improvements to Rematch

Despite the positive reception, it's not all praise. Part of the community reported difficulties with the online multiplayer mode, especially regarding connection stability. The developer has already responded and stated that they are working on updates and fixes to improve the overall experience. Thus, this move shows that Sloclap is attentive to feedback and seeks to adjust what is necessary to maintain public interest.

It's still too early to say whether Rematch will be a direct competitor to established franchises like FIFA or eFootball, but its promising start indicates that there's room for alternative offerings in the market. The mix of agility, cooperation, and tactical freedom could attract both casual players and more dedicated competitors looking for quick and intense matches.
