Reiji Miyajima revealed some things about his sources of inspiration for creating the story of his manga and the protagonist. As he explains, the author says that his personality is similar to Kazuya's in some aspects.

“Like Kazuya, there are things I can’t bear, no matter how hard I try, like dealing with pain. I express what I want through Kazuya. As a result, readers tell me the story is funny and relatable, and that helps me emotionally.”

Furthermore, Miyajima also mentioned that the idea of Kazuya being desperate for a girlfriend came from a Chinese article he read. The article discusses how Chinese families pressure their sons to introduce a girlfriend by New Year's. This idea inspired the author to develop the main plot of his manga.

“Their desire to reassure their parents seems genuine, but I’m sure they also want to show off. These mixed feelings are what make up Kazuya.”

Synopsis:

Shortly after a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Mami Nanami, Kazuya Kinoshita decides to rent a rental girlfriend named Chizuru Ichinose. As a result, he soon finds himself having to continue renting Chizuru to keep up appearances with his family and friends.
