Reiji Miyajima revealed some things about his sources of inspiration for creating his manga's story and protagonist. As he explains, the author says that his personality is similar to Kazuya's in some aspects.
“Just like Kazuya, there are things I can't bear no matter the effort, like dealing with pain. I say what I want through Kazuya. As a result, readers tell me the story is funny and relatable, and that helps me emotionally.”
Furthermore, Miyajima also said that the idea of Kazuya being desperate for a girlfriend came from a Chinese article he read. The article talks about how Chinese families pressure their children to introduce a girlfriend in the new year. This idea inspired the author to develop the main plot of his manga.
“Their desire to reassure their parents seems genuine, but I'm sure they also want to show off. These mixed feelings are what make up Kazuya.”
Synopsis:
Shortly after a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Mami Nanami, Kazuya Kinoshita decides to take on a surrogate girlfriend named Chizuru Ichinose. Therefore, he soon finds himself in situations where he has to continue renting Chizuru to keep up appearances with his family and friends.
