Capcom a Resident Evil HD Remaster on its official YouTube channel . The game will be released for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC in early 2015. In Europe and the Americas, the title will be released exclusively digitally. Japan is also included in the digital releases, but exclusively in that territory, Capcom will release special editions of Resident Evil HD Remaster on disc for the PlayStation 3.

Hirabayashi said, "The goal with this remaster is to bring back the original [Resident Evil] experience in HD. The pacing and flow of the original game are an inherent part of its spooky atmosphere, so we made the decision not to interrupt it at this time."

The survival horror game Resident Evil debuted in 1996 on the PlayStation. A remake then appeared on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002. The most recent installment in the franchise, Resident Evil 6, was released in 2012 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
