Riot Games has announced changes to its Terms of Service to address content creators who engage in toxic behavior. From January 3, 2025, the company will be able to apply sanctions to anyone who violates the rules, even outside of games such as League of Legends and Valorant.

According to Riot, penalties include bans and account restrictions. The new guideline allows the company to monitor the content of broadcasts, social networks and any other media related to the brand. The objective, according to a statement, is to ensure a safe environment for the community.
Change in Terms expands scope of punishments
The update includes the possibility of penalizing creators for offensive behavior in different contexts. So, even if a Riot game is just in the background during a live, inappropriate conduct can generate sanctions. The company also stated that, although it does not proactively monitor social networks, it is authorized to apply penalties if violations are reported.
In the official statement, Riot Games highlighted that infractions include the use of offensive language or actions that violate the Terms of Service. Thus, content creators participating in the Partner Program, for example, may have privileges suspended if they violate the guidelines.
Impact on the multiplayer gaming community
This measure is seen as part of a larger effort by Riot to combat toxicity in its multiplayer titles. Valorant and League of Legends are widely known for their competitive environments, which often lead to negative behavior.
The new policy seeks to reinforce the responsibility of content creators, who influence the community's behavior. For many players, these influencers are a reference, which increases the impact of their actions.
Even with recent challenges, such as the layoff of 32 employees, Riot Games maintains its industry-leading status. In this way, the firm stance in the face of toxicity reflects the commitment to preserving the integrity of its community and strengthening the bond with players around the world.
