Riot Games has announced Project K , a physical card game set in the League of Legends universe. The title, scheduled to debut in China in early 2025, promises to offer a strategic experience with varied modes, including 1v1 duels and multiplayer clashes, such as 2v2 or free-for-all.
- BLEACH Rebirth of Souls will be released in March 2025
- 5 series based on games that won over the public
Unlike Legends of Runeterra , Project K is an unprecedented product, which uses only some design philosophies and arts already existing in the developer's games.
A new approach to the LoL universe
A Chinese partner will be responsible for distributing Project K, not Riot Games directly. The game's global publication still depends on negotiations with other publishers in different regions, according to the developers.
The creative team, led by Dave Guskin and Chengran Chai, is committed to building a robust competitive ecosystem, with national and even international tournaments. According to Riot, the game will be available in several languages in the future. Thus, trying to attract players from all over the world and expand its fan base.
Similarities and differences between Project K and Legends of Runeterra
Although it shares design elements such as customization inspired by League of Legends , Project K is an independent work and not a physical adaptation of Legends of Runeterra . Riot emphasized the creation of its own mechanics and a style of play aimed at face-to-face and community interactions, highlighting the physical format as a differentiator in the card games market.
Riot strategically chose to launch the game in China to tap the vast local market, but plans to expand to other countries based on early success and response from the global community.
In addition to Project K, Riot Games has invested in a series of new projects. Among the highlights are the long-awaited fighting game 2XKO and an MMO that is still in development. Additionally, another release planned for next year is the Arcane Box Set . It will be a limited edition of cards for pre-sale, scheduled for early 2024.
