Onibi announced this week the action RPG Tomo: Endless Blue, an open-world title with anime-inspired visuals. Scheduled for release on PC via Steam in late 2026, the game features an infinite ocean with unique islands and creatures called Tomo, who accompany the player in battles and everyday tasks.

Formed by veterans who worked on hits like Baldur's Gate III, Fall Guys, League of Legends, Fortnite, and World of Warcraft, the studio promises a dynamic universe, where each island functions as a small world, with its own cultures, hidden secrets, and varied challenges.

Procedurally generated islands and fragmented culture

In Tomo: Endless Blue, players embark on a journey through an archipelago that represents the fragments of vanished civilizations. Therefore, the developers combine handcrafted content with procedural generation algorithms, ensuring geographic and narrative variety.

Exploration takes place across a vast ocean connecting these isolated worlds. On each island, the player encounters unique characters, traditions, and different ways of interacting with the environment. This approach allows for a distinct experience with each playthrough.

The setting reinforces the sense of constant discovery. Instead of following a linear plot, players piece together the story gradually as they unravel the mysteries of each location they visit.

Companions Tome and Strategic Combat

Tomes are creatures with special abilities that accompany the player throughout the adventure. They participate in battles, help with equipment construction, cooking, farming, and even fishing. With their own personalities, Tomes are more than allies: they are companions on the journey who influence how the player interacts with the world.

Combat uses an active system, with alternating between the main character and the Tomes. Terrain physics play an important role: the player can, for example, spread water over an area to cool a fire enemy and then apply an electrical attack for more damage.

This dynamism expands the variety of possible strategies. Intelligent use of the environment becomes a key component in battles, both against common opponents and in confrontations with so-called "Tomo Champions."

Building with blocks and realistic physics

One of Tomo: Endless Blue's key differentiators is its physics-based building system, which allows players to create custom vehicles like boats, cranes, and even aircraft. The possibilities are virtually limitless, depending solely on the player's creativity.

Building isn't just decorative: it's an essential tool for exploring islands, accessing remote locations, or solving environmental challenges. Players create contraptions as part of their daily routine, in sync with the pace of the adventure.

This system resembles the voxel style popularized by games like Minecraft, but with a greater degree of sophistication, offering complete control over each component of the structure.

Flexible multiplayer mode and shared journey

Players can explore Tomo: Endless Blue solo or in multiplayer mode. Players can also connect via local network or online servers. There's no fixed limit on the number of participants—it depends solely on the device's or server's capabilities.

However, despite its focus on the individual experience, the game encourages shared journeys. Players can build together, explore different islands simultaneously, or simply live in villages alongside the Tomo. This flexibility allows for a variety of play styles, from cooperative to solo.

The title also focuses on immersive interaction, with everyday activities like farming, cooking, and fishing reinforcing the feeling of living in that world. All this with an anime-inspired visual aesthetic, featuring vibrant colors and expressive characters.

Expectations and next steps

Still in its early stages of development, Tomo: Endless Blue has already attracted attention for its combination of popular elements in contemporary games: open world, creative building, procedural generation, and anime aesthetics. This combination promises to please fans of immersive RPGs and titles focused on freedom of exploration.

Onibi announced that new details will be revealed throughout 2025, including gameplay videos, character introductions, and more information about the Tomes. Until then, the game can be wishlisted on Steam.

Scheduled for release in late 2026, Tomo: Endless Blue arrives as a promising bet among independent games that combine creativity, fragmented narrative and emotional involvement with magical creatures.
