Aniplex released a new trailer for the movie Sword Art Online: Progressive – Hoshi Naki Yoru no Aria . The video highlights the appearance of the Game Master and the declaration of the game's death from Asuna's point of view.

Ayako Kawano (unit director on Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic ) will direct the film at A-1 Pictures . Kento Toya ( Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld , The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments ) will do the character design. Yasuyuki Kai is the action director while Yuki Kajiura returns to compose the soundtrack.
Additionally, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka returns as Kirito and Haruka Tomatsu as Asuna in the voice cast.
Finally, the anime is based on the light novel SAO: Progressive by Reki Kawahara . The novel was released in 2012 as a revised version retelling events from Sword Art Online. The story follows Kirito's journey through the floating castle of Aincrad from the beginning, floor by floor.
