The long-awaited film The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug has gained several images, followed by a new trailer, to promote the second film that opens this year on December 13th. The third and final part, The Hobbit – There and Back Again , premieres on December 19, 2014.

The three films tell a continuous story set in Middle-earth, 60 years before The Lord of the Rings. In the story of The Hobbit, which adapts the work of JRR Tolkien, the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the 13 dwarves who form his company hire Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) for a journey to the Lonely Mountain, where they will try to recover the homeland of the dwarves that was dominated by the dragon Smaug (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch). It is in this adventure that Bilbo finds the One Ring that triggers the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
