Synopsis of Serial Experiments Lain
In Lain's story, the characters are connected by the " Wired ," the sum total of human communication networks . Telegraph and telephone services created the network, which the internet and its successors expanded.
The anime suggests that Wired can connect to a system that allows unconscious communication between people and machines without the need for a physical interface.
The story introduces us to this system with the "Schumann Resonance ." A property of the Earth's magnetic field that theoretically overcomes all barriers to long-distance communication . If someone were to create such a connection, the network would become equivalent to reality, forming a consensus of perceptions and knowledge. The thin line between the real and the virtual would begin to disappear.
hyper-connected world , we follow Lain, a fourteen-year-old girl who struggles with technology . But driven by the sudden suicide of a classmate, she enters the Wired. Lain becomes lost in a distorted mass of hallucinations, memories, and interconnected psyches.
