Dwayne, or rather The Rock Johnson, has confirmed that he will play Black Adam in the highly anticipated Shazam film. Dwayne Johnson himself announced on his personal Twitter account: "Kneel at his feet or be crushed by his boots." It's an honor to become #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero, he says in the message:
The actor had already hinted at playing the villain, but for months there's been a mystery surrounding which character he'll play in the adaptation. According to Variety, Darren Lemke (Turbo) will be writing the script for the film, which will portray Black Adam more as an antihero trying to clear his name than as a villain. There's still no word on who will play Captain Marvel in the film.
Created by Otto Binder and CC Beck in 1945, Black Adam was one of the first holders of the Wizard Shazam's powers, back in the days of Ancient Egypt, when he was known as Teth-Adam, son of Pharaoh Ramses II. Teth allowed himself to be seduced by power, being exiled by the Wizard Shazam to another dimension. Black Adam was only able to free himself when the Wizard Shazam offered his powers to Billy Batson, Captain Marvel.
