Young Animal magazine , published by Hakusensha , revealed that the manga by Shigemitsu Harada and Shinjirou , titled Shinyaku Kani Kousen (The Crab Cannery Ship: New Testament), will end in the next issue of the magazine, which launches on November 25th.
Thus, the manga references the proletarian novel by communist Takiji Kobayashi, Kani Kōouen (The Crab Cannery Ship), and the manga is loosely based on the novel, which debuted in 1929 and was banned by the Japanese imperial government. The book tells the story of the struggle of crab boat workers whose labor is exploited.
Synopsis
The science fiction manga is set in a world where all the world's oceans have evaporated and gigantic versions of sea creatures travel through air currents in the sky. For the honor of the nation, crab-canning ships and their crews work to catch giant crabs. Ruka and Hiiragi were once sold to an orphanage, and now work among the exploited crew of one of these ships, hoping to one day pay off their debts and be free. But when Ruka fights back and retaliates against her ship's tyrannical captain, Kujou, her destiny changes.
Harada and Shinjirou therefore launched the Shinyaku Kani Kousen manga in Young Animal in June 2021. Hakusensha then published the fourth volume of the manga digitally on September 29th.
