Nintendo surprised fans on Tuesday (7) by releasing an animation titled “Close to You” , a video that shows a baby chasing a pacifier around the room.
However, we haven't had any confirmation as to whether the animated short is linked to any of their well-known franchises — such as Pikmin or Mario — nor has it revealed which studio was responsible for the production.
Fans believe the video is related to Pikmin
Despite the lack of official confirmation, fans have noticed similarities between the short film's soundtrack and musical themes from the Pikmin . Additionally, a small red object appears in the background around 1:39 in the video, further fueling suspicions.
Production and context of Close to You
In 2022, Nintendo acquired Dynamo Pictures , the studio responsible for animations such as Ghost in the Shell and Kingsglaive , for 34.5 million yen (approximately US$245,000). Following the purchase, the studio was renamed Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd. , which had previously worked on Pikmin Short Movies released in 2014.
In addition, the company launched the "My Mario" , featuring products and stop-motion animations aimed at children.
Finally, it's worth remembering that Nintendo's next big project in theaters will be the movie Super Mario Galaxy , a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie , scheduled for release in April 2026.
