This year's second edition of Shueisha's magazine, Shonen Jump Next!! revealed that the magazine will undergo a name change in the summer. The working title for the new name is Jump GIGA and its concept will be “a special edition for the evolved newcomers.”
Shonen Jump Next!! currently publishes spin-off chapters of featured manga in the main Weekly Shonen Jump, current and past one-shots from the magazine's contributors, and one-shots from newcomers.
The magazine went through several changes over time:
- It was launched in 1969 under the name Shounen Jump, being a spinoff of Weekly Shonen Jump, and was weekly.
- In 1980 the magazine became quarterly, and in 1996 it changed its name to Akamaru Jump and was published three times a year.
- In 2010 it changed its name again to Shonen Jump NEXT!
- In 2012, its periodicity returned to quarterly.
- In 2014 the magazine was transformed again becoming the current Shonen Jump NEXT!! and began to be published bimonthly.
