A -1 Pictures , the renowned studio behind Solo Leveling and other major anime , ended its 2025 fiscal year with an unexpected negative result. According to a financial statement published in the Kanpō (Official Gazette of Japan) on June 30th, the studio recorded a net loss of 178 million yen , marking a reversal from a profit of 24 million yen the previous year.

Financial results and recent trajectory

Although the company's total assets amounted to approximately 2.7 billion yen , the increase in current debt and the reduction in operating margins contributed to the imbalance in the accounts. According to the profit chart, the studio had been fluctuating since 2020, but 2025 was the worst result of the decade .

This loss, however, does not reflect a lack of activity. After all, A-1 Pictures was involved in major productions in the last fiscal year.

A-1 Pictures recently released Solo Leveling: Arise.

Solo Leveling

During this period, the company launched or participated in the following projects:

  • NieR:Automata Ver1.1a (2nd cour)
  • Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II
  • Solo Leveling – Season 2
  • Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!
  • Victory Goddess: NIKKE – Old Tales

However, even with these significant titles, the numbers show that costs exceeded gains , signaling potential challenges in the production model.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the next financial cycle will bring a recovery. In the meantime, follow the latest industry news on our WhatsApp and also on Instagram .
