Netmarble has announced a new title based on the Solo Leveling universe: Arise Overdrive, revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8th. Unlike Solo Leveling: Arise, this release promises a significant overhaul in combat style, progression system, and multiplayer structure. The goal is to offer a more strategic and accessible experience, without relying on gacha mechanics for progression.

What changes compared to Solo Leveling: Arise?
Despite following the same original webtoon narrative, following the evolution of E-rank hunter Sung Jinwoo, Arise Overdrive features significant changes. The main change is the combat system. Now, the player can perform actions such as blocking, parrying attacks, and extreme dodging, requiring greater technical mastery in battles.
Furthermore, before entering the portals, players can choose between four distinct combat styles: Assassin, Duelist, Elementalist, and Regent. Each presents a different level of difficulty, directly influencing Jinwoo's attributes and the type of weapon he can equip.
Gacha-free system and focus on crafting progression
One of Arise Overdrive's biggest innovations is the elimination of the gacha system. Instead of relying on luck to obtain characters and equipment, players can use materials acquired during stages to craft weapons and items. Furthermore, customization is based on the chosen combat style, creating a fairer, merit-based progression.
To recruit other hunters, the "negotiation" system comes into play. The player uses commemorative coins to try to recruit allies, adjusting the offer based on the chances of success. The absence of banners and roulette wheels reinforces the idea of a more accessible game, less reliant on microtransactions.
Real-time co-op mode expands the experience
Another important addition is real-time multiplayer, allowing up to four players to team up to take on bosses in cooperative missions. The lobby system makes it easy to join existing groups or create custom sessions based on the chapter and monster type being faced.
This feature brings a unique social element to the franchise, bringing together players with complementary combat styles and objectives. Furthermore, teamwork will be essential to overcome the most complex challenges, making gameplay more dynamic and strategic.
Equipment and artifacts with unique effects
The game also introduces a new set of artifacts that can be equipped to both Jinwoo and hired hunters. The names and effects are different from those seen in Solo Leveling: Arise, and each item can be crucial to performance during missions. Equipment management becomes a fundamental part of the strategy, requiring careful team building and resource selection.
Release and available platforms
Netmarble is releasing Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive for PC via Steam in 2025. Xbox users will be able to play starting this fall, with confirmed versions for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox Cloud in 2026. Additionally, the demo is already available on Steam, and players can wishlist the game on the Microsoft Store to receive updates.
Expectations for Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive
With significant changes to mechanics and gameplay philosophy, Arise Overdrive represents a bold step for Netmarble in the evolution of the Solo Leveling franchise. By abandoning criticized monetization systems like gacha and prioritizing a fairer and more immersive experience, the new title promises to broaden the game's reach among both existing and new fans.
Overdrive is expected to become not just an alternative, but a new standard within licensed anime and webtoon games. Its focus on refined gameplay, tactical combat, and player cooperation could transform the way audiences interact with Jinwoo's universe in the digital environment.
