Synopsis of Spice and Wolf:

The life of a traveling merchant is a solitary one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Traveling from town to town with only his horse, carriage, and whatever goods he has acquired, the merchant has grown accustomed to his routine—until the night Lawrence finds a sleeping wolf goddess in his carriage. Taking the form of a charming girl with wolf ears and a tail, Holo has grown weary of tending the crops in the fields and strikes a deal with the merchant to lend him the cunning of "Holo the Wise Wolf" to increase his profits in exchange for taking her on his travels. What kind of businessman could refuse such an offer? Lawrence soon discovers, however, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be quite a challenge. Will this wolf girl be too wild to be tamed?

Hasekura then launched the Spice and Wolf light novels with illustrations by Jū Ayakura in 2006. The novels went on hiatus after the 17th volume in 2011 and returned with the 18th volume in 2016.

Finally, the work also inspired two seasons directed by Takeo Takahashi and written by Naruhisa Arakawa. The first season aired in Japan from January to March 2008, and the second season (Spice and Wolf II) from July to September 2009.
