A pirate steals a hidden treasure in Bikini Bottom, guarded by a great hero, forcing SpongeBob and his friends to set out on land to search for the treasure. The plot matches the TV series' tone: disregarding logic. This is what the second film in the series will be like, the trailer for which was released by the production company this Thursday.
The treasure is the last page of a pirate's magic book, which he needs to complete his plans. The guardian hero is Bob himself. Along with Patrick, Squidward, Krabs, and Sandy, SpongeBob goes through various situations on land. The film has a different aesthetic than the first in the series. In the second installment, the scenes of the characters on dry land are computer-animated. In the first franchise, the film was entirely produced in the classic cartoon format.
Logic, of course, goes out the window in this sequel. While in the first film Bob and Patrick were close to death from dehydration while out of the water, in this one they have no difficulty breathing the same air as humans.
The film will star guitarist Slash and actor Antonio Banderas as the villainous pirate. Its release is scheduled for early 2015 in the United States.
