Developer Shift Up has announced that it will release Stellar Blade on PC in 2025, following its April launch as a PlayStation 5 (PS5) exclusive. The decision comes after consistent sales performance on the console, with the title expected to perform better on the new platform. The South Korean studio also revealed details of its collaboration with the popular game Nier: Automata, which brings new features and items to the game.
On November 20, 2024, Shift Up will release a DLC (additional content pack) in partnership with Nier: Automata, developed by Square Enix. The special content includes 2B-inspired outfits and other items that will allow players to have a personalized experience rich in references to the Nier universe. Stellar Blade's protagonist, Eve, will gain new clothing and accessory options, increasing the possibilities for visual customization in the game.
In addition to the costumes, Nier: Automata fans will find a special appearance by the character Emil, voiced by Maii Kadowaki, who will bring eleven exclusive items to “Emil's Shop,” adding even more elements of interaction between the two worlds.
Stellar Blade PC Sales and Performance Expectations
During its most recent financial report, Shift Up expressed expectations that Stellar Blade will outperform on PC. Therefore, with the growth of the Steam platform among AAA games (big-budget, high-production titles), the studio believes that the accessibility and popularity of PC could expand the player base. They reference this prediction in the recent success of Black Myth: Wukong.
Still, Shift Up acknowledges that the game's PS5 sales trajectory, while stable, has shown signs of decline since its launch. To maintain audience interest, the developer is rolling out regular content updates, including patches (software updates) and other customization features, as well as the new photo mode.
Updates and the long-awaited photo mode
Stellar Blade's latest update brought a long-awaited feature: photo mode. This feature allows players to capture in-game moments, with the ability to apply filters and adjustments to add personality to the images. This feature, common in games that focus on visual appeal, effectively engages players, increases social media sharing, and boosts the game's visibility.
The update also included four new outfits and accessories for Eve, the game's protagonist, as well as lip-syncing in Brazilian Portuguese and other languages. These additions aim to personalize and enrich the player experience, while demonstrating Shift Up's commitment to adapting the title to new markets.
The collaboration between Stellar Blade and Nier: Automata aims to satisfy fans of both universes and also attract new players. The strategy of incorporating elements from recognized games expands the franchise's value. Thus, the PC expansion reflects a commitment to the growth of the multiplatform gaming market. Shift Up has stated its commitment to enhancing Stellar Blade to deliver an experience that lives up to players' expectations.
