The Academy responsible for the Oscar awards has announced the nominees for the 96th edition of the prestigious film event. The acclaimed film " Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (The Boy and the Crane)," directed by Hayao Miyazaki at the renowned Studio Ghibli , has earned a nomination in the prestigious category of Best Animated Feature. Expectations are high, as this could become Miyazaki's second work to receive the coveted statuette, following in the footsteps of "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away)," which won the Best Animated Feature award in 2003.

This marks Hayao Miyazaki's return to the race for the Best Animated Feature award, his first nomination since "The Wind Rises" at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014. However, Studio Ghibli's catalog also includes nominations at the 87th Academy Awards in 2015 for "The Tale of Princess Kaguya," at the 88th in 2016 for "When Marnie Was There," and at the 89th in 2017 for "The Red Turtle" (a co-production with France and Belgium), all in the Best Animated Feature category.

Synopsis:

The Boy and the Heron is inspired by the story of Genzaburo Yoshino , published in 1937. The book's story follows the journey of Copper, a 15-year-old boy who goes on a great quest to discover the meaning of life. However, Miyazaki stated that his film will have a different story.

However, Hayao Miyazaki is one of the most respected and influential animators in Japan, being the co-founder of Studio Ghibli . Furthermore, the film was released in North America on December 8, 2023, also in IMAX format.

Finally, the film "Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (The Boy and the Crane)" achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first Japanese film to receive the Best Animated Feature Film award at the 81st Golden Globe Awards, announced earlier this month.

The Boy and the Heron opens in Brazil on February 22nd, with confirmed previews in São Paulo and Fortaleza. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 10th .
