The most recent film Sword Art Online: Progressive ( Scherzo of a Deep Night ), the second part of the project based on the light novel spin-off Progressive, is showing in cinemas in Japan, grossing more than 4 million dollars at the box office.
Synopsis:
Progressive's story takes place at a time when Asuna and Kirito were not yet known by their respective names “Lightning Flash” and “The Black Swordsman”. When Asuna Yuuki uses the NerveGear (complete immersion system) for the first time, she is a third-year elementary school student who had never even had contact with an online game. Meanwhile in the saga, the first Multiplayer Virtual Reality Game (VRMMORPG), called Sword Art Online (SAO), is officially launched on November 6, 2022. Its players, still euphoric upon entering the game, only realize that they have been trapped when the Game Master stops them from finding a way out. The Game Master also issues a warning: “You should not play this game.” In other words: if a player loses his life in the game, he also dies in real life.
