Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale – Film is announced in Japan

It was announced during the Dengeki Bunko Haru no Saiten 2016 event this weekend that Sword Art Online will get a film scheduled to arrive in 2017. This new film is titled Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale scheduled to arrive in cinemas in Japan in 2017.

Still at the event, more details about the film were revealed: “ The name ordinal scale”  is the name of a game after “Sword Art Online” and “Gun Gale Online.” The game uses a new augmented reality device called “Augma”, this game was made specifically for mobile. The game has a unique feature where players can increase their rank by defeating monsters and using items.

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will return as the character Kirito and Haruka Tomatsu as Asuna, this new film will tell a new story after the Rosary Arc.
Reki KAWAHARA 's Sword Art Online light novel had two TV series in 2012 and 2014, as well as Sword Art Online: Extra Edition a TV special in 2013. The franchise also includes several manga adaptations and spinoffs and three games. A fourth game will be released in 2016.
