Publisher Wangyuan Shengtang and developer Aurogon Shanghai have officially announced Swords of Legends, a new single-player action RPG inspired by Chinese mythology. Previously known as Gujian 4, the game is coming to PC and consoles with no release date yet, promising a cinematic experience set in a universe steeped in Eastern legends and traditions.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, the title boasts a deep narrative, accessible combat, and a world marked by the transition between life and death. With this, the Gujian franchise gains a sequel that aims to win over veterans and new players alike.

Swords of Legends: A Journey Between the Living and the Dead

In Swords of Legends, the player assumes the role of an Underworld Enforcer, a figure responsible for guiding lost souls and helping them overcome their regrets. The setting blends fantasy with direct references to Chinese folklore, featuring creatures such as the guardians Ox-Head and Horse-Face, who act as allies throughout the adventure.

The narrative approach goes beyond simply reliving familiar legends. Each soul encountered has a unique story, marked by pain and desires that bind the spirit to the world of the living. This approach ensures not only immersion but also emotional moments that stand out in the storyline.

Accessible combat full of possibilities

Unlike games with punishing difficulty, Swords of Legends focuses on balanced battles, geared toward all player profiles. The soul capture system connects both the story and the gameplay, allowing you to summon monster spirits to assist in battles. Some of them can even perform combo attacks with the protagonist, adding strategic variety to combat.

Additionally, exploration offers special items that strengthen the character and increase skill customization options. This flexibility ensures that each player can adapt their playstyle to the challenges they face.

Independent continuation of the Gujian franchise

Although it's the official successor to the Gujian series, the new title features a completely independent plot. This means you don't need to have played the previous installments to understand the story. The idea is to expand the already known universe while offering a self-contained narrative that serves as a gateway for new fans.

Large-scale development

The project began in 2021 but gained momentum starting in 2024, when the team secured new funding and expanded its production. By choosing Unreal Engine 5, the developers sought to elevate the game's visual quality and scale, despite facing budgetary challenges. Currently, Swords of Legends is in an advanced stage of production, with the first trailer revealed as a showcase of the studio's progress.
