Fuji TV and Noitamina revealed Thursday that Masaaki Yuasa, director of “ Mind Game, The Tatami Galaxy, Kick-Heart ,” will direct the anime Taiyo Matsumoto’s Ping Pong manga this spring.
Fuji TV has already started releasing the anime's 30-second promotional video.
The manga revolves around two longtime friends, Smile and Peco, who are both members of their school's ping pong club and both very talented at the sport. However, Smile's calm personality prevents him from winning against Peco. The club's teacher becomes aware of Smile's talent and works to change his attitude toward the sport.
It previously inspired a live-action film starring Arata as Smile and Yosuke Kubozuka as Peco. Viz Media released the film on DVD in 2007.
