The anticipation surrounding GTA 6 is enormous. With its release drawing ever closer, a new concern has surfaced: how much will Rockstar's next title cost? In a recent interview, the CEO of Take-Two, the company responsible for the franchise, commented on the pricing policy and hinted at the possibility of higher prices than the current standard.

Without revealing specific figures, Strauss Zelnick emphasized that the company's priority is to deliver more value than it charges. The statement reinforces rumors about a premium launch edition, indicating that GTA 6 may debut with multiple versions and different price points.

Take-Two suggests special editions for GTA 6

During the interview with Variety, Zelnick made it clear that Take-Two's pricing model is based on offering more than the consumer pays for. According to him, the company adopts a flexible pricing approach, adjusting prices according to the value proposition of each release, aiming to maintain a balance between cost and player delivery.

This approach paves the way for different versions of GTA 6 to be included at launch, with additional content and different price points. This strategy has been adopted previously in titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, making it likely to be repeated with Rockstar's next major venture.

Zelnick also suggested that the company is keeping an eye on industry trends, such as offering differentiated packages.

"The industry has been releasing games with different editions. This may include a Premium version with extra benefits for the player," he said.

GTA 6 could surpass $70 at launch

The executive's statement raised alarms about a possible price hike at the launch of GTA 6. Analysts are already speculating that the premium edition could exceed the $70 mark, reaching up to $100 for more complete packages, with digital bonuses, early access, and online mode advantages.

Zelnick has already publicly positioned himself on the added value of AAA games, and he defended this idea again:

“We want to ensure that the consumer has an incredible experience, because they paid a fair price for it.”

The comment reinforces the company's view that the price charged needs to match the delivery, especially in games with such an ambitious scope as GTA 6.

Price should fall over time, says CEO

While the initial price of GTA 6 may scare off some of the player base, Zelnick reassured the public by reminding them that prices tend to gradually decrease.

“The price tends to decrease over time, as is natural in the industry,” he said.

This model allows the company to maximize profit in the first few months, while still ensuring future access to audiences who prefer to wait for promotions or more affordable versions.

Real value may be in GTA Online

More than just retail value, the GTA franchise's main source of revenue in recent years has been its online mode. Since 2013, GTA Online has generated steady revenue through microtransactions, a trend expected to continue in GTA 6.

This strategy reduces the pressure for a high base price. Analysts suggest that even if the game costs more at launch, the financial return will come primarily from online sales.

GTA 6's release promises to change industry standards

Scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, GTA 6 not only carries the expectation of raising the technical standard of open-world games, but should also directly influence the way major publishers approach the pricing of their titles.

In the interview, Strauss Zelnick reinforced that the company's priority is focused on the quality of the experience offered to the player. According to him, the sense of fairness in the relationship between cost and delivery is one of the pillars guiding the development of the new title.

Even without a confirmed date for its arrival on PC, the game will be released first for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
