An 18-year-old Japanese teenager was honored by the Kagoshima City Central Fire Department on September 29th after reporting and helping to contain the spread of a house fire.
The teenager, Ouga Kawazu , credited his calm composure and quick thinking to anime . Kawazu received an award of recognition, and stated that he " watched an anime series with firefighters " and that's why he was able to handle the situation calmly.
Kawazu was on her way to a convenience store in Uehonmachi on August 29th when she noticed a fire had started at the entrance of a two-story wooden house. Kawazu called 119 (the emergency number in Japan) and then rang the doorbell and knocked on the door. It was almost midnight when the homeowner, a 70-year-old woman who lived alone, answered the door. She was about to go to bed for the night when Kawazu appeared. She was then able to contain the fire on her own.
Although Kawazu did not specifically state which anime he watched, the popular anime Fire Force , by author Atsushi Ohkubo , seems to be the most likely candidate.
