The year 2024 is drawing to a close, and as usual, Google has released its annual "Year in Search" list, revealing the most-searched anime of the year. And to the delight of animation fans, the anime category has gained prominence in Japan!

According to Google, the most searched anime in 2024 was Mashle: Magic and Muscles . This title, which follows the story of a magic-less boy in a magical world, topped the list.

It's worth highlighting the presence of classics like Demon Slayer and Dragon Ball Z, demonstrating that certain anime continue to win over new fans. Furthermore, the animated film HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle ranked fourth among the most searched films in Japan, demonstrating the series' popularity.
Mashle: a global phenomenon
However, Mashle's success wasn't limited to Japan. The anime's opening theme song, "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born" by the band Creepy Nuts, was the second most searched song worldwide through Google's music recognition feature (humming search).
And there's more! The death of legendary Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama placed the mangaka third among the most searched public figures of the year. The creator of Mashle, however, wasn't left behind: the series boosted his sales, which increased tenfold compared to the average prior to the anime's second season.
