Toho Animation Great Pretender anime film this Friday (10). The promotional video reveals a “return to the party” that will take place at a panel at Anime NYC, where the new project will be announced.
Anime director Hiro Kaburagi, WIT Studio Production IG producer Hitoshi Ito will be present at the panel taking place on Saturday, November 18th.
Furthermore, the first season of the anime ended with a cliffhanger in the story of the character Laurent Thierry. Taking the teaser into consideration, the potential film will likely develop this last "loose end".
Finally, “Great Pretender” premiered on Netflix Japan on June 2nd and on TV on July 8th, 2020 on Fuji TV's +Ultra block. The animation is by Wit Studio ( Attack on Titan , Vinland Saga ), the direction is by Hiro Kaburagi ( 91 Days ), the screenplay is by Ryota Kosawa (live-action Parasyte), the character design is by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto ( Evangelion , FLCL ), the music is by Yutaka Yamada ( Tokyo Ghoul , Vinland Saga ), and the production is by Maiko Okada.
Synopsis of Great Pretender:
Makoto Edamura is supposedly the greatest con artist in Japan. However, along with his partner Kudo, they attempt to swindle a Frenchman in Asakusa. Unexpectedly, they end up being swindled themselves. The Frenchman in question, whom they tried to con, turns out to be Laurent Thierry, a much higher-level "trusted man" who is in control of the mafia. Thus, Edamura is yet to discover what fate awaits him after getting involved in the Frenchman's dirty work!
