Assassin's Creed gets a movie adaptation from Ubisoft . The highly anticipated film adaptation of the game now has a release date. Ubisoft announced that the film, starring Michael Fassbender (Magneto in X-Men: First Class), will be released on May 22, 2015. In addition to playing the protagonist Desmond , the actor will also co-produce the film. British writer Michael Lesslie will pen the screenplay. Production will be handled by Ubisoft Motion Pictures in partnership with New Regency, with distribution by 20th Century Fox . Assassin's Creed will premiere three weeks after Avengers 2. For now, the director and the rest of the cast have not yet been defined, but should be announced later this year. To protect its franchise and prevent another game from being poorly adapted for the big screen, Ubisoft will have creative control over the production.
