Episode 12 , released on June 18th, marks the end of the first season of the anime The Beginning After the End , which, despite criticism, was renewed for a second season. In this episode, Arthur decides to embark on a new adventure and wishes to increase his power level to protect those he loves. To do so, he takes the test to become an adventurer and prove his skills in the field.

At the beginning of the episode, Arthur and Jasmine go to the Xyrus branch of the Adventurers' Guild. There, the boy takes a test to receive his adventurer registration and to determine his class. During the test, two characters appear and receive prominent attention: Elijah, a boy related to the royal family of dwarves, and Lucas, a half-elf who lives in Sapin. It is likely that the two will form a bond with Arthur in the future, whether of friendship or enmity.

Furthermore, there is an intriguing event at the beginning of the chapter. Arthur and Jasmine realize that Sylvie can change her appearance. This information will be important throughout the narrative and will likely be explained later.
Arthur receives a B-level grade on his test
Arthur's test is interesting. Despite demonstrating his skill with the sword, the protagonist seems to be hiding part of his magic, since he only uses the fire element during the test. Kaspian Bladeheart, head of the Adventurers' Guild branch and an AA-class wizard, conducts Arthur's test and is impressed by how the boy handles the sword. He even reflects that, at the moment, because he is still growing, Arthur's movements are clumsy. However, Kaspian adds that, when the boy grows up, he will be extremely skilled and fearsome.
Arthur's duel is marked by intense movements. The color of the fire is very vivid and receives remarkable emphasis. Despite the use of static scenes, this fight explores the characters' movement a bit more than those in previous episodes, especially when Arthur uses the sword during the test.

Following the exchange between young people of the three races, the Sapin Kingdom began to recognize elves and dwarves as adventurers. This allowed skilled young people, such as Lucas and Elijah, to demonstrate their powers. Therefore, children are receiving adventurer registration and a B-level ranking, just like Arthur, in unprecedented numbers.
Arthur faces the first obstacle in his adventure
While traveling to their final destination, Arthur and Jasmine encounter a beast that begins attacking the village where they are. Because of this, they decide to try and defeat it. Arthur was ready to attack the creature, but receives advice from his past self, King Grey, to wait and act at the right moment.

Despite the boy defeating the beast, Jasmine advises him not to be so reckless. Furthermore, she says that she has fought like Arthur and didn't understand how to cooperate with the group she was in or how to show a companion that she trusted him, but she learned this from the Twin Horns. The episode, which has a more adventurous tone, was one of the most enjoyable to watch in this first season. In addition, it's the first time Arthur shows his skills in the field without a mentor.
Although there is still much to change and improve, especially regarding teamwork, it's clear that Arthur has evolved a lot since the first episode. The love he receives from his family and Sylvia, his journey with Tessia, his training with Virion, and now, his adventure with Jasmine, are experiences that have contributed to Arthur's maturation and, above all, to the awakening of his empathy and humanity.
At the end of the episode, the anime reveals that Tessia is observing Arthur's journey through a magic globe. The elf is bothered that the boy is traveling with a woman. However, Virion interprets her displeasure as envy of Arthur taking on a new challenge. Therefore, he advises his granddaughter to do the same and gives her a book that seems to be related to the Xyrus Academy. With this, it's likely that in the second season, Tessia will begin her studies at Xyrus and meet Arthur sooner than expected.
