The popular manga The Darwin Incident (Darwin Jihen) had its anime adaptation announced this Tuesday (21). At the moment, we have no information about the cast of the series.

The Darwin Incident

Synopsis of The Darwin Incident:

During a daring rescue operation led by an animal rights organization at a biological research institute, something extraordinary is discovered: a pregnant chimpanzee, about to give birth to a "humanzee," a half-human, half-chimpanzee being.

Charlie, who is neither fully human nor fully animal, possesses a unique behavior and sensitivity that provokes intense reactions in the community around him. He finds himself torn between two worlds, struggling to find his place. Meanwhile, in another corner of the world, a group of vegan activists sees Charlie as the ideal figure to represent their cause, trying to transform him into a symbol of their struggle. Charlie's story is not only about the coexistence of two species, but also about identity, acceptance, and the complex relationship between humans and animals.

Therefore, Shun Umezawa writes and illustrates the manga, which Kodansha has been serializing in the seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon since June 2020. Finally, in 2022, The Darwin Incident won the 15th Manga Taishō, as well as the Excellence Award at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival.
